“Fulton Sheen’s The Mystical Body of Christ remains a serious and significant contribution to the Mystical Body theology of the twentieth century. And it provides an intriguing glimpse into the subtle and theologically acute mind of the greatest Catholic evangelist of the twentieth century.”

About the Books

The Mystical Body of Christ
By Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
Word on Fire | June 19th, 2023
Hardcover | 266 Pages | 6" x 9"
First published in 1935, The Mystical Body of Christ is a groundbreaking contribution to ecclesiology—the study of the Church—from one of its most beloved modern evangelists.

In a world where an increasing number of people identify as “spiritual but not religious,” The Mystical Body remains as timely as ever. With the typical wit and insight that made this beloved evangelist a household name, he draws believers into a deeper understanding of their own role in the great communion of saints.

Addressing topics such as the Eucharist, the Incarnation, social justice, and priestly scandals, Fulton J. Sheen artfully guides readers through the Scriptures and the rich Catholic theological tradition to demonstrate the inseparability of Christ and his Church. The Church is not a roadblock to encountering Christ, Sheen argues, but rather the living Body of Christ himself.

Hardcover | 612 Pages | 6" x 9"
Widely proclaimed a classic work of Christian faith, Life of Christ has been hailed as the most eloquent of Fulton J. Sheen’s many books. The fruit of many years of reflection, prayer, and research, it is a dramatic and moving recounting of the birth, life, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of Christ, and a passionate portrait of the God-Man, the teacher, the healer, and most of all the Savior, whose promise has sustained humanity for two millennia.

With his customary insight and reverence, Sheen interprets the scripture and describes Christ, not only in historical perspective, but also in exciting and contemporary terms, seeing in Christ’s life both modern parallels and timeless lessons. His thoughtful, probing analysis provides new insight into well-known Gospel events.

An appealing blend of philosophy, history, and Biblical exegesis, from the best-known and most-loved American Catholic leader of the twentieth century, Life of Christ has long been a source of inspiration and guidance. For those seeking to better understand the message of Jesus Christ, this vivid retelling of the greatest story ever lived is a must read.

“We know Christ best as Peter, Paul, Augustine, Aquinas, Catherine, Newman, Thérèse, and millions of Christians have come to know him throughout history: through his Body. In a world bent on separating Jesus from his Church, Christ from his Body, Sheen’s masterful book bridges that divide, affirming that the two are really one.”

— BRANDON VOGT, from the introduction

The Mystical Body of Christ & Life of Christ

A brilliant academic, Catholic prelate, writer, evangelist, and television personality, Fulton J. Sheen was also a mesmerizing public speaker, endowed with extraordinary oratorical gifts, a charming sense of humor, and a magnetic personal presence. At the height of his fame, Sheen’s radio program, The Catholic Hour, had an audience of four million and his television show Life is Worth Living was viewed by an estimated thirty million people each week. He had the courage and the imagination to use the new media in the mid-twentieth century to engage a world growing increasingly skeptical of Christianity.
